got my howie fix. whoot | ||
|
so it's been quite a few months since i got my Howie High. Good show overall...kinda weird though, very mellow. Howie seemed to be in a good mood but the crowd sucked. and everyone there was there to see howie pretty much!! Howie opened with Sorry, the crowd was wooting...then he starts Brace Yourself. Me and my roommate do our "YEA HOWIE" and the rest of the place is SILENT. anmd everyone around us loooks at us. and we're like UHHH NEW SONG. but yea, the crowd seemed kinda lame, like they weren't feeling it. could have also been cuz i was stuck on the bleachers.

Frickin amazing show! You could tell that Howie was having a blast up there, thanks, I think, in no small part to the crowd. It was definitely a Howie crowd -- everyone singing along, cheering at everything from the first time he hit his guitar to when he broke out 'Beams of Light'. And I'd say that at least half of the crowd left after Howie's set. Pat McGee Band played to a much smaller crowd.
<EDIT> Froggy, I'd guess that the crowd was quiet because they actually wanted to hear the new song. It was respect, not being 'dead'. He pulled a 'Dashboard Confessional' during 'Morning After' and had the crowd sing the chorus for him. He didn't have his eBow with him for 'Ghost', so he just made up a new part. He was constantly joking around -- he looped his voice on 'Africa' then, after confessing that he had no clue where he was going with the song, started it up backwards. He turned 'She Says' into an opus, going from the main song into 'One' back into 'She Says', throwing in 'Idioteque' and a tease of 'Secret'. Just a great, great show. I'd hate to be Pat McGee Band trying to follow that. |

I was half-expecting to read this and find out Pat McGee's band came out and joined Howie on a few songs, ala 4/21/01.

The show was awesome!! We had a ton of fun and thought that Howie played a great set and was having fun up there. We were right up front and I was ready to kill the guy in front of me if he stepped on my foot one more time. But that could be my own fault for wanting to stand there instead of sitting in the handicapped section. Damn crutches!! The crowd was very into the show but we did realize a couple people who weren't quite into it. I got some really good pictures that I'll get up after I get all my film developed. Also I wanted to say Hi again to all those who came up to me and said Hi and that they recoginzed me because of the crutches.
Adding a couple things.... I plan on writing more about the show but I need to do it on more sleep and when I'm not rushing out the door again. Tracy - Thanks for calling me yet again... |

was there front row, not impressed, my girlfriend HAD to take me to my first show and it was fun, 3 minute mile really kicked ass... too bad i missed playing with them a few weeks ago, but alice peacock was subpar at best (how do some of these artists get signed again!!????), howie was ok, not the greatest performance of all time and pat mcgee was about 2 vocalist short of what i was used to hearing from him, so suffice to say the night was a bust in my opinion... first howie show, probably the last, i will wait for the energy to rise, as i was under impressed sad to say, i guess you all just built him up way way way to much for me to have an honest unbiased impression of the music, i have been listening since '98 but waiting to catch a show, well souly because i was too into other bands to catch a solo so, but it was decent, well worth the 10 dollars for a night of music. Hope everyone else had a better time than me... my only question is... and i know what kind of pedals he uses... blah blah blah... but HOW in the world does he get that bass sound out of the Boss OC-2!?? I have one and it sounds like ass... AND how does he get that percussive sound when he slaps? Mine again sounds like ass... aside from those to things the rest for me was ok... i was MOST impressed with the vocal work, he can harmonize with himself very good... well i guess as one should be able to do, but anywhooo enjoy, perhaps i will see you all at matt nathanson in may.

I saw Howie open up for Tori Amos twice last fall. I thought he was fabulous, and was really happy when I saw that he was coming to the Chicago area. I convinced my husband to come see him with me... And then the show wasn't what I had hoped for. It was good, but not great. I didn't like what he did with "Beams of Light." It was short, didn't really build up, and just ended. Disappointing. Overall, the show was pretty good, but having to stand the entire time was terrible. We could've sat down, but by the time we got there, the only place to sit was either very far back on the side of this gymnasium, or pretty high up. So we stood, and our backs were killing us.
I hope he comes back around here again sometime, so I can show my husband that Howie really does rock. I also caught Alice Peacock. I didn't think she was bad, but her music was kinda boring. She has a great strong voice, and I think she's got a lot of potential. |

Secret rocked! | ||

I thought the show was wonderful. This was my third time seeing him. Secret rocked. I missed all the fancy stuff during Ghost, but Secret made up for it. I had more fun at the Marquette show, but I think it's just because he was a headliner and got to play longer. I thought his voice was very strong during the show.
Thanks for coming out, Howie! |

...how could you think that wasn't "that great"? I'm sorry, but how much better are you expecting? I thought it was amazing but i felt like a freak when i was singing to Numbness and no one else was...o well. This show was 4583409580394850934 times better than the 11/27 show. He was having so much fun and he really liked the atmosphere it seemed like. The whole TATU thing was halarious. hahaha. I was REALLLLLLY disappointed that he didn't come out to sign. I don't really understand that
Love & Peace, Amanda P.S. If anyone has the recording from that show..I WOULD LOVEEEEE if you would be SO nice and burn me a copy. peace yo! |

greatest show ever!!! i could not have asked for anything more!!, and i met him after the show too!!! and then we walked right behind him until we had to go to our car, so we walked to the door for the parking lot, and the people that he was with went to the door with us, and we said good bye to howie, and he said good bye too. so howie kept on walking straight until his friends told him that they were parked in the garage. so when we walked in the little room where the elevator was, my bros friend said to howie that it is kinda awkward that we already said our goodbyes, (we tried to be funny the whole time, with walking with them) finally we found out that his car was next to ours!!! first concert of many that i will attend!!!!

No clue if anyone taped -- I didn't notice any mics anywhere, but someone might have dubbed from the soundboard. We'll probably find out within a few weeks.
In the meantime, I've got a crapload of pictures: www.mattryd.com/howie |

I was right next to those obnoxious girls for a while too. I could barely hear anything Howie was saying. He made a comment about how he felt like he was stuck in a cave and these girls started yelling, "I'll save you Howie!!" Blah blah freakin blah. A group of guys came in later and were yelling behind us. They started chanting something in the middle of one of his songs and they seemed surprised that no one else would join them. Duh. Man, I'm starting to think more and more like a taper, "Crap, that's gonna show up on the recording, etc."
-John PS- Can anyone revise my setlist? I don't think it's right... Baby one breath away

(I've been around here a while, bu never post)
the best show i saw, and ive been to three. the people were SO rude there, though. i was standing behind these two very short girls (and im 5'1.....they were 4'10 at most) and these people kept cutting them off...and we were right in front. i felt so bad for them because they couldn't see at ALL. anyone else notice every girl looked like a slut? I didn't understand all the short, low cut, sleeveless shirts on a VERY cold night. it wasn't even HOT in the room. the howie-energy rocked madly, though. the set was rockin' and i am so pumped for another show, though it probably won't be for a while. If there was a recording, i'd give a lot for it...in the form of candy? *Kelly

i wanted to go but lack of drivers license and no one to take me kinda kept me away from loyola last night. its nice to hear from you guys who had a good time. but it kind of sounds like we are getting our first taste of what happened to john mayer. lets hoope not.
anyways, sounds like a pretty groovy show. |

i understand what you guys are talking about...the barely- twelve year old girls in their abercrombie tank tops (pulled down extra low for howie) that gushed and giggled from every slightest move from by howie. i was front row center, and at one point there was a lot of pushing going on from the youngins, which i didn't understand. i think they got mad from amanda (girl that stood next to me) and my remarks regarding their "grapes" that they would squeeze against the railing.
in the end, they don't matter...they'll find another cute artist and forget all bout howie. it's the true fans that stick it out, and it was the fact that last nights show was amazing that sticks out the most-even with some minor probs. (like jerky loyola staff) just my 2 cents Peace ~Monica~ |

I forgot to bring paper and pen, but after chatin it over with a friend, I'd pin a lot of money on it being:
Sorry Brace Yourself Ghost>Beams Morning After Numbness Madrigals Buzzing>Africa She Says>One>Idioteque>Secret As for the Mayer comment -- as JM became more popular, his concerts started attracting more and more teenage girls who seemed more content to fawn over his looks than actually pay attention to the music. I think the general fear is that a similar thing will happen to Howie's crowds. |
