Howie was fairly quiet, not a lot of chatter. Here's what I can remember for a setlist, please correct my blaring inaccuracies as I was not keeping track of the order very well: Sorry, So Sorry Brace Yourself She Says Ghost Morning After Sunday Morning Song Don't Dream It's Over Buzzing After You No Longer What You Require Bunnies Numbness For Sound Counting On Me Collide -- Disco Madrigals Click Here for my photos from the show and below is my video of "No Longer What You Require". Posts: 19 (03/15/09 00:35:41) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts	So tonight, after a long travel saga, I saw Mr. Day after a bit of a hiatus on both our parts, and I must say, it definitely took me back. As some of you know, he's the artist that first really got me on the road for gigs and set me on the path of destruction I now lead; so there's a soft spot in my heart for the man. I entered the venue mid-way through the opener's set, and it was set up caberet style with tables and candles, etc. So I found THE LAST seat way in the back and snatched it up. Watching from so far away (I usually like to be right up front to watch his feet), I was able to kinda watch it all - him, the audience's reaction, his reaction, etc and really kinda got lost in my thoughts through it all. He opened with Sorry, as per usual, and it made me think about how this song - TEN YEARS AGO - was my intro to his music too. I saw him perform at the BMAs with this little looping number and was immediately hooked. The fact that the performance hasn't changed is endearing to me since this song has that personal attachment but lord he must be bored with it by now! The audience roared during the looping, making it evident that the overwhelming majority of them were fans from the SATWN days, which is fine, but they didn't appreciate the finer details, such as the appearance of my personal favorite, After You (albeit a shorter version since no one seemed to care). They loved the singles off SATWN and pretty much talked through Disco. Ah, Disco. It's off the first album and has always been a favorite, but rarely played as of late (as by that I mean the last 6 years or so). A memory came to mind of the Matty, Howie, Guster, O.A.R. tour that happened, oh, around 2004 / 2005?!? Howie had just ditched the band (literally - it was a last minute unexpected thing) and was playing solo for the first time in a long time. By the fourth show it was apparent that his set list was pretty stale. Same songs; same order. And that just won't do. So, Berry and I, in our infinite wisdom, decided to take matters into our own hands and wrote him a set list, in his handwriting, and his style, with all our favorite songs - including Disco (and After You). Las Vegas, House of Blues - the stage is ten feet tall (or at least taller than me) and this is the night we've hit the wall and are gonna implement our set. Now on this tour he would walk out, play Sorry, then unfold the set list from his pocket and set it down on his right. Well, when the curtains opened, I hurdled the stage and threw OUR set list right where it was supposed to be and crossed my fingers he was high enough not to notice. Sorry ensued, then confusion. then he played the next song on the list - which was also a single (we did a good job writing it for real!). Song #3, same order, another big hit. And then the moment of truth......he says something to the effect of "I had a plan but I guess someone decided to change it" and then drumroll played DISCO! Ahhhh. Music to my ears. So tonight took me back to that moment just to hear disco played again, while everyone else talked loudly over it. Good times. Not surprisingly they all cheered and sang along to Collide, and I immediately rolled my eyes. But being in the nostalgic mood already, I then thought back to the first time I heard the song - Hampton Beach, NH - first gig of the SATWN tour before the album even came out. At the time the band was awesome (even though it was a trainwreck since he hadn't had a steady band on tour before), and they played this song and it was instantly my new fave. When I finally got the album I loved it even more. And when I first heard it acoustic (Orpheum, Boston - Kiss Jingle Jam), I cried. So, I get it. It's beautiful. But it seems to have lost it's meaning for me now that it's just an overplayed radio hit. There's only been once when I truly listened to it again - Boston, some school gig late last year (I was distracted b/c I had to rush to catch Matty's gig at another school that same night). You could hear a pin drop and for the first time in a long time it was emotional and beautiful. Wish I could hear it that way again...... But I digress. Tonight was a solid set. Only two new songs (no Longer what you Require and Counting on Me) which, of course, the audience talked through. I had hoped for Longest night or Sound the alarm or So Much Love but maybe next time. Because, after all, this is Howie and there will always be a next time.

I was hoping for some more new cuts as well.
