I enjoyed the show and I dragged my heavy-metal-loving boyfriend along with me who of course had never seen a Howie show and frankly, didn't want to. My BF is, however, also a musician himself and plays bass in a couple of bands, so I knew when Howie came out and did his thing I would see my BF eat his words. He did. It was nice because right after Sorry so Sorry, he leaned over to me and said "that was pretty impressive." I smugly smiled because I wasn't surprised.

I was a bit shocked at all the "old school" songs, but pleasantly surprised I must say. I don't think I've ever heard Howie play "After You" live and solo like that. That's the way I like After You but I've always heard him play it really upbeat live and I wasn't fond of that arrangement.

I was sooo happy he did beams of light after Ghost! I really wanted my BF to see that, and once again he thought it was totally cool.

The truly new song for me was "No Longer what you require". That was the only one I'd never heard and I didn't really know what to think. It was different, in my opinion. I've never heard a Howie song that read like a page out of a diary. It was moving, and I almost felt like I shouldn't have been listening to something so personal. Howie's stuff has always been so "enigmatic" when it comes to lyrics that the song just threw me. I liked it, but I'll reserve judgement for later when I've had a chance to hear more of his new stuff.

I haven't seen Howie live since 2004, so this was quite a treat. He was so "on" and soooo good. His voice was just amazing and his music was as intense as ever. really enjoyed it. My boyfriend told me at the end of the night that though Howie's music might not be his style of preference, he can appreciate a good musician when he sees one and Howie is a good musician. It was like a little victory for me!
